Who is it for?
- Students who plan to pursue a 4-year bachelor’s degree in an engineering field.
How long will it take?
- You will complete 60-61 credit hours.
- Full-time students who meet calculus placement guidelines can earn their degree in 2 years.
- You may be required to take pre-calculus courses to place into calculus.
What will I learn?
- Strong math skills: Calculus I, II, and III
- Calculus-based Physics I and II
- Introductory Engineering concepts
- Reading & writing
- Oral communication
- Computer basics
What will transfer?
Students who complete the AE degree can transfer credits to the following state funded universities with Engineering programs:
- East Carolina University
- NC Agricultural & Technical University
- NC State University
- UNC Charlotte
- Western Carolina University
Admission to Engineering programs is highly competitive and admission is not guaranteed. To be eligible for the transfer of credits under the A.E. to the Bachelor of Science in Engineering
Articulation Agreement, community college graduates must obtain a grade of “C” or better in each course and an overall GPA of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.

Students may also be able to transfer credits to other institutions, such as private or out-of-state colleges. Contact staff at the preferred university to determine if credits will transfer.

Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society
Students who successfully complete 12 semester hours of associate degree coursework with a Grade Point Average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, and adhere to the school conduct code and possess recognized qualities of citizenship, will be invited to join the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) honor society. Membership is voluntary and open to all curriculum students meeting minimum eligibility. The society provides opportunities for the development of leadership and service, for an intellectual climate for exchange of ideas and for stimulation of interest in continuing academic excellence.
