MCC and RCC Celebrating Truck Driving Grads

Montgomery Community College and Richmond Community College graduated their first combined Truck Driver Training class this month. All seven students who started the program graduated from the program and earned their commercial driver’s license. The graduation ceremony occurred on Tuesday, August 20th, with welcome words delivered by college presidents Dr. Chad Bledsoe and Dr. Dale McInnis, of Montgomery Community College and Richmond Community College, respectively. MCC Celebrates “Made in Montgomery Day”

Montgomery Community College normally celebrates a fall Manufacturing Day, but this year they decided to expand the reach of the event to all businesses, not just manufacturers, calling it Made in Montgomery Day! Companies in attendance included Troy Lumber, Mohawk Industries, Inc., Saputo, Inc., Mountaire Farms, FirstHealth of the Carolinas, Sandy Ridge Assisted Living, NEXT Gen, Montgomery County Schools, Myrick Construction, Southern Corrections – Department of Adult Corrections and McGee Brothers- Carolina Masonry Services. MCC to Provide Custom, High-Tech Training to Mohawk Employees

Montgomery Community College has secured over $70,000 in state funds for customized training based on systems upgrades and equipment for Mohawk Industries, Incorporated. Mohawk Industries, Incorporated in Mt. Gilead is one of the company’s four locations in North Carolina. In 2006, Mohawk purchased Montgomery County-based Homanit USA, an existing medium density fiberboard manufacturer. Mohawk has since invested greater than 40 million dollars in new technology and will partner with Montgomery Community College to provide the needed training that will allow employees to support and maintain the company’s new technology. After a year off due to COVID, MCC was thrilled to welcome area companies back to campus to celebrate Manufacturing Day 2021. Six businesses and two providers were on hand to meet with hundreds of MCHS and MCC students to promote the exciting careers awaiting them right here in Montgomery County. Autumn Care of Biscoe, Carolina Aseptic, Jordan Lumber Company, McRae Industries, Mohawk Industries and Troy Lumber Company joined Apprenticeship Montgomery and NCWorks set up booths beneath a large white tent, meeting students MCHS juniors and seniors throughout the day on October 28th. MCC Implements S.T.E.P. Job Readiness Program

Brutonville Community Center in Candor will be the first of several sites to host Montgomery Community College’s S.T.E.P. Job Readiness Training program this summer through fall. The six-week program, which takes place in Candor July 12th through August 19th, aims to take participants from the initial technology setup needed for a job search, all the way through successful interviewing techniques. The Strive, Train, Earn, Prosper curriculum replaces the job search component as a condition of unemployment benefits, through a condensed, one-location, hassle-free learning experience. In the summer of 2007, Shirley Harris noticed her cucumbers were growing really well. MCC Co-Recipient of $5 Million U.S Department of Labor Grant

The U.S. Department of Labor has awarded a $5 million grant to a consortium of North Carolina community colleges called “Aligning the Workforce and Education System for Manufacturing” also known as AWESM. Spearheaded by Forsyth Technical Community College, Montgomery Community College joins Alamance, Davidson County, Guilford Technical, Randolph, Rockingham and Surry community colleges to build the capacity to meet labor market demand for a skilled workforce. “This grant gives us increased capacity to involve area employers and develop the workforce they are trying to attract,” said Andrew Gardner, MCC’s Dean of Continuing Education, the division which oversees the College’s workforce development initiatives. “We intend to use these funds to increase

If someone told you a company could provide quality, customized training to employees at no cost, would you believe it? Well, it’s true, and made possible through a collaboration between AmeriQual Aseptic, Montgomery Community College (MCC) and the state of North Carolina. Montgomery Community College was awarded the task of managing $137,211 to meet the training needs of AmeriQual Aseptic.
