Cody Haywood is a first year Forestry Management Technology student, a second generation MCC student, and the first to come to the Forestry Management Technology program from Montgomery Central High School. Cody is from Mount Gilead, where he lives with his parents. Father Eddie, who went through the first-ever offered two-year MCC forestry program and graduated in 1996, is in a land management role with Jordan Lumber Company. Cody and his dad have always spent a great deal of time outdoors, accessing a large hunting club tract near their home in Mount Gilead. MCC Recognizes Annual Scholarship Recipients

On August 27th, around 80 Montgomery Community College students received financial awards from the very special people and organizations who endow scholarships at the College. Students and their donors were able to meet each other in person during a ceremony and post-event reception. The evening began with the presentation of merit awards, which are scholarships based on a student’s performance in their program and recommendations from their instructors.  The next group of awards, in its third year, were scholarships awarded to continuing education students through an established endowed fund. MCC and RCC Celebrating Truck Driving Grads

Montgomery Community College and Richmond Community College graduated their first combined Truck Driver Training class this month. All seven students who started the program graduated from the program and earned their commercial driver’s license. The graduation ceremony occurred on Tuesday, August 20th, with welcome words delivered by college presidents Dr. Chad Bledsoe and Dr. Dale McInnis, of Montgomery Community College and Richmond Community College, respectively. Twenty-one students, eleven with an Associate Degree in Nursing and ten from the Practical Nursing program, received a commemorative pin and a nurse’s candle to remember their accomplishments. MCC Foundation Golf Tournament Sets Fundraising Record

The MCC Foundation’s 26th Annual Earle A. Connelly Golf Tournament was a huge success, thanks to the event sponsors and the nineteen teams who competed this year. The April 12th event brought in over $20,000, the highest amount yet!  The winner of this year’s tournament was the Colonial LP Gas team, of Troy. MCC is about to award certificates to its first cohort of gaming programmers! This May, twelve students will complete the Simulation, Game, and Development Certificate for transfer students. Malco Tools, Incorporated has presented Montgomery Community College’s top HVAC student with a tool kit. Student Akeem Parker tops this year’s class. Led by Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Technology Department Chair Ed Hinson, this year’s cohort is bright, talented, motivated and employable. “In addition to choosing a growing, popular career area with ample employment opportunities, this recognition by Malco Tools demonstrates there are concrete rewards for doing great work,” explains Hinson. “Akeem has been such a capable student. Shaina Griffin’s interest in automotive issues started when she was about eight years old. Her uncle had a Chevy Nova from the 1960s that she had early exposure to, and in the years that followed, as family vehicles encountered problems, she always seemed to be on the scene helping. “At first it was handing tools to people,” explains Shaina, “But as I got older, I listened and watched people diagnose problems and do repairs. Meet Our SGA President, Sasha Eury

Sasha Eury is the 2023-2024 president of MCC’s Student Government Association. She is currently a healthcare technician at Stanly Regional Medical Center, where she started her career in healthcare 17 years ago as a recovery audit contractor. Sasha will graduate in May 2024 with an Associate Degree in Nursing. She plans to pursue her bachelor’s degree in nursing at Appalachian State University starting in Fall 2024. Sasha has enjoyed her role as an MCC Ambassador, in addition to her term as president. MCC Launches Boot Camps to Support College and Career Readiness

The College and Career Readiness (CCR) team at MCC has added another layer of support for students pursuing their High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma: Boot Camps! Each of the half-day sessions covers one of the five topic areas students must master to obtain their HSE diploma: Math, Reading, Science, Social Studies and Writing.
