UNC-Wilmington School of Social Work Partners with MCC to Provide Bachelor’s Degree Pipeline

November, 2023 – UNC Wilmington has partnered with Montgomery Community College to create a transfer opportunity for students wishing to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Social Work. Students who have successfully completed an associate degree in the Human Services Technology program at Montgomery Community College and meet admission requirements of UNC Wilmington’s Bachelor of Social Work program will be admitted to the program. This means that students have a straightforward pathway to completing a bachelor’s degree. MCC Receives Grant for MLK Event

Montgomery Community College is the recipient of a Randolph Electric Member Corporation People Helping People Sharing Success Community Grant. The funds will be used to support MCC’s annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day-On Challenge, an event which will take place at MCC on the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Monday, January 16, 2023. In a normal year, around 100 volunteers come to the MCC campus in Troy to spend an hour or less packing 10,000 ready-made meals. Russell Fuller: At Your Service

It is hard to imagine meeting a busier person than Russell Fuller. Not busy like a honey-do list (though I’m sure he has one of those) but busy in the sense of servitude, especially when it comes to events, projects and interests related to United States veterans. Though retired, this 82-year-old veteran keeps a full calendar, whether he is serving the Shiloh Church Association, completing paperwork and raising funds to commemorate the Warner Bridge, organizing and participating in Veteran’s Day events, serving on Biscoe’s monument committee, acting as president of the local veteran’s council or preserving and displaying a vast collection of militaria in Denton. After a year off due to COVID, MCC was thrilled to welcome area companies back to campus to celebrate Manufacturing Day 2021. Six businesses and two providers were on hand to meet with hundreds of MCHS and MCC students to promote the exciting careers awaiting them right here in Montgomery County. Autumn Care of Biscoe, Carolina Aseptic, Jordan Lumber Company, McRae Industries, Mohawk Industries and Troy Lumber Company joined Apprenticeship Montgomery and NCWorks set up booths beneath a large white tent, meeting students MCHS juniors and seniors throughout the day on October 28th. MCC’s SBC Partners with SCA to Assist Marginalized Entrepreneurs

Montgomery Community College’s Small Business Center is partnering with the Sandhills Cooperation Association to empower future business leaders in Montgomery County’s marginalized communities.  Instead of asking entrepreneurs to come to MCC’s Page Street campus, SBC staff will conduct outreach initiatives through SCA’s network of trusted leaders and the locations they serve. The SBC will host a monthly Porch Talk series for business leaders at 117 Springdale Drive in Troy. Initial topics include how to get money to further education, how to pursue financing to build a business and the importance of building credit. Bear Creek Arsenal Outfits MCC Armorer’s Class

In another act of generosity following its donation to renovate MCC’s bluing room, Bear Creek Arsenal supplied MCC’s gunsmithing program with AR-15 rifles to enhance student learning in its armorer’s class. More than two-thirds of an MCC gunsmithing student’s class time is spent in its shops, bringing theory to a practical application in a hands-on setting. In the case of these AR-15s, students will gain valuable experience diagnosing, disassembling and reassembling the automatic weapons. Bear Creek Arsenal (Sanford) specializes in the manufacture of AR-15 and AR-10 rifles, complete uppers, lowers, barrels, bolt carrier groups and automatic rifle parts. MCC Co-Recipient of $5 Million U.S Department of Labor Grant

The U.S. Department of Labor has awarded a $5 million grant to a consortium of North Carolina community colleges called “Aligning the Workforce and Education System for Manufacturing” also known as AWESM. Spearheaded by Forsyth Technical Community College, Montgomery Community College joins Alamance, Davidson County, Guilford Technical, Randolph, Rockingham and Surry community colleges to build the capacity to meet labor market demand for a skilled workforce. “This grant gives us increased capacity to involve area employers and develop the workforce they are trying to attract,” said Andrew Gardner, MCC’s Dean of Continuing Education, the division which oversees the College’s workforce development initiatives. “We intend to use these funds to increase

Well, it’s true, and made possible through a collaboration between AmeriQual Aseptic, Montgomery Community College (MCC) and the state of North Carolina. Individuals can “up their skills” by participating in training programs and development opportunities that expand an employee’s abilities and minimize any skill gaps they may have.
