MCC Foundation Hosts Fourth Annual Shooting Clay Tournament

Ten teams comprised of 40 shooters headed down to Ellerbe on a gorgeous fall day for the MCC Foundation’s fourth annual Shooting Clay Tournament. DeWitt’s Outdoor Sports hosted the competition which featured 14 shooting stations with two shooting boxes at each station. The course, over a mile long, winds through wooded areas, fields and duck pond habitats. Scotty Moore will graduate in May 2022 with an Associate in Science degree, but he’s just getting started. MCC Seeing Growth in Sustainable Ag Program

In January of 2020 Montgomery Community College launched its Sustainable Agriculture program in the new Joseph Reese Blair Career and Technical Education Center, just two months prior to the College moving to fully-online instruction due to COVID-19. As with many programs housed in that facility, student experience was diminished due to the lack of hands-on activities. Today, the CTE Building, as it is known, is open and humming with student activity once again. MCC Conveys Annual Scholarships to Deserving Students

On the evening of August 25th, the Montgomery Community College Foundation awarded over $58,000 to students to attend the fall 2021 semester. These scholarships will be funded in the spring 2022 semester as well, putting education within reach of so many deserving students. Of the 62 scholarships awarded, 14 were to Montgomery Scholars, new students attending MCC right out of high school. This year, students and their donors were able to meet each other in person during a brief ceremony. MCC Foundation donors contribute to 99 endowed scholarships and 27 named scholarships as well as support various funds in the Foundation designed to benefit students. MCC Foundation Celebrates Generosity

Each year the Montgomery Community College Foundation celebrates the generosity and accomplishments of its top individual contributors. The Fundraiser of the Year award goes to Andy Speer, former department chair of MCC’s Taxidermy department. Andy became an instructor at MCC in 2007, and is also the owner of Andy’s Taxidermy in Troy. He has been a constant supporter of the various Foundation and College events throughout the year. Most recently he completed his pledge to endow the Andy Speer Taxidermy Scholarship, which will now support students of the taxidermy program for many years to come. Montgomery Community College Secures $375,000 in Golden LEAF Foundation Funding

Montgomery Community College is pleased to announce it has received $375,000 in funding support from the Golden LEAF Foundation, a nonprofit organization established in 1999 to receive half of North Carolina’s funds from the master settlement agreement with cigarette manufacturers. The funds are part of the foundation’s Community Based Grants Initiative, targeting investments in the building blocks of economic growth: agriculture, economic development, education, infrastructure, workforce development and health care. The College applied for grant funding to support and expand its sustainable agriculture program, which provides opportunities for students to obtain an associate degree, diploma, and/or certificate in the field.
