Cody Haywood is a first year Forestry Management Technology student, a second generation MCC student, and the first to come to the Forestry Management Technology program from Montgomery Central High School. Cody is from Mount Gilead, where he lives with his parents. Father Eddie, who went through the first-ever offered two-year MCC forestry program and graduated in 1996, is in a land management role with Jordan Lumber Company. Cody and his dad have always spent a great deal of time outdoors, accessing a large hunting club tract near their home in Mount Gilead. The MCC Foundation Welcomes New Director

The Foundation at Montgomery Community College is pleased to welcome Susanna Kornegay as its new Director of Resource Development. Kornegay is a graduate of Appalachian State University, where she studied Electronic Media and Broadcasting and Dance. A lifelong resident of Troy, Kornegay comes to MCC from Montgomery County Schools where she served as its Director of Marketing and Strategic Communications and a teacher to English Language Learners. “I am so proud to be working here at MCC, truly a cornerstone of our community. I am from here originally, and I returned after college because I intend to build a life here and be a part of Montgomery County’s future success.”

MCC Foundation Golf Tournament Sets Fundraising Record

The MCC Foundation’s 26th Annual Earle A. Connelly Golf Tournament was a huge success, thanks to the event sponsors and the nineteen teams who competed this year. The April 12th event brought in over $20,000, the highest amount yet!  The winner of this year’s tournament was the Colonial LP Gas team, of Troy. The funds raised from this event are used to support Continuing Education Occupational Scholarships, the Sandra Miller High School Student Assistance fund, the college’s annual MLK Day Challenge, Faculty and Staff Member of the Year Awards, campus Diversity Day, MCC’s popular Summer Camps, Student Government Association Ambassador scholarships and mini-grants for faculty and staff Tournament Sponsor Michael

MCC Foundation Hosts Fifth Annual Shooting Clay Tournament

Fifteen teams comprised of 60 shooters headed down to Ellerbe on a gorgeous fall morning for the MCC Foundation’s fifth annual Shooting Clay Tournament. DeWitt’s Outdoor Sports hosted the competition which featured 14 shooting stations with two shooting boxes at each station. The course, over a mile long, winds through wooded areas, fields and duck pond habitats. The annual contest also offers a flurry shoot, where all team members aim at clays released simultaneously from DeWitt’s state-of-the-art automated traps. “This event is one of our favorites, and is becoming very popular. We had 15 teams participate this year, our highest count yet,” explains Emily Tucker, MCC’s Director of Resource Development.

MCC Foundation Sets Fundraising Record at Annual Community Event

The Montgomery Community College Foundation extends sincere thanks to the hundreds of community members who attended or donated to the college’s annual auction fundraiser, held on September 22, 2023. The event, called Boots, Bling and Blue Jeans, featured country-western music and a beef brisket/smoked chicken buffet. Around 300 people attended the event, raising a record $33,000 for MCC’s scholarship fund. In addition to ten $100 winners drawn throughout the evening, the Foundation draws a $5,000 grand prize winner. This year’s grand prize went to Kenneth and Phyllis Cagle, who operate Aire Serv of Central North Carolina, a Biscoe-based HVAC repair and maintenance company. In 2022 the MCC Foundation awarded $152,061.71

MCC Celebrates Annual Scholarship Ceremony

On August 29th, around 75 Montgomery Community College students received financial awards from the very special people and organizations who endow scholarships at the College. Students and their donors were able to meet each other in person during a ceremony and post-event reception. The evening began with the presentation of merit awards, which are scholarships are based on a student’s performance in their program and recommendations from their instructors.  The next group of awards, in its third year, were scholarships awarded to continuing education students through an established endowed fund. This scholarship assists continuing education students taking classes in a variety of programs including, phlebotomy, taxidermy, gunsmithing, welding and more.

The MCC Foundation Board awarded its Humanitarian of the Year and Fundraiser of the Year Awards at its February 2023 meeting. Award recipients were on hand to receive personal thank-yous in addition to commemorative pottery gifts crafted by John Boalick, director of MCC’s Heritage Crafts Program. The Humanitarian Award is given to the individual or group which most exemplifies a spirit of goodwill and generosity not only to the benefit of Montgomery Community College, but the community at large. The Foundation at Montgomery Community College is pleased to welcome Emily Tucker as its new Director of Resource Development. Tucker replaces Korrie Ervin who has become the college’s Special Projects Coordinator/Grants Writer. In addition to her prior year as the Director of MCC’s Small Business Center, Tucker joins the Foundation with over 25 years of non-profit organization management experience; she served the Richmond County Chamber of Commerce in the areas of membership, fundraising, operations, customer service and communications, completing her tenure as the organization’s President/CEO. Thousands of Meals from MLK “Day On” Event at MCC

Approximately 75 volunteers met at Montgomery Community College to package nearly 10,000 meals in a half-day of service on January 23, 2023. Volunteers from MCC (students, faculty and staff), Communities in Schools, 4-H, Youth Leadership Montgomery, Eckerd Connects, East Middle School, Montgomery County Early College and Troy Rotary participated in the 13th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. “Day On” Challenge. Montgomery Community College was the recipient of a Randolph Electric Member Corporation People Helping People Sharing Success Community Grant. The funds totaling $2,000 supported the meal preparation event. Over 9,500 sealed meals were bagged and placed into boxes that were distributed to Montgomery County Food Pantries and the Backpack Pals program, providing nutritious
