Youth Participate in MCC’s Culinary Camp

Seventeen youth participated in a four-day cooking event held at Montgomery Community College in July. The Recipe for Success Summer Culinary Camp was funded by a North Carolina Community College Adult Educators Association “Lead the Way” Grant. The Montgomery County chapter of Communities In Schools and Montgomery County Schools partnered with MCC to offer this camp free-of-charge to young students aged 10 to 14. Students prepared meals and dined together each day, ultimately compiling a take-home cookbook with nutritious recipes such as omelets, protein snacks, guacamole, spaghetti and more. MCC Pins this Year’s Nursing Classes

Seventeen students, eight with an Associate Degree in Nursing and nine from the Practical Nursing program received a commemorative pin, a nurse’s cap as well as a pottery and candle keepsake to remember their accomplishments. MCC Celebrates BLET Graduates

Eight Basic Law Enforcement Training students celebrated their graduation from MCC’s BLET program on the evening of May 3, 2022.  Jason Cranford, Rosie Garcia, Evan Grady, Ashley Hogan, Chris Maness, Brandon Moore, Samuel Richardson and Leslie Wright received their certificates of completion with family members, friends, college administration and trustees in attendance. MCC Inducts Students into Honor Society

Thirty-one Montgomery Community College students were inducted into its Phi Theta Kappa honor society on April 26th, including several students from prior years who weren’t able to enjoy an in-person ceremony due to pandemic constraints. The purpose of the honor society is to promote scholarship, the development of leadership and service and the cultivation of fellowship among qualified students. Inductees have worked hard to meet the eligibility for Phi Theta Kappa, completing at least 12 semester hours of associate degree general education course work with a grade point average of 3.5. MCC Golf Tournament Funds Scholarships

MCC’s 24th annual golf tournament fundraiser provided over $17,000 in funds to support the MCC Foundation and the academic endeavors of Montgomery Community College students. The event, which took place April 8th at Densons Creek Golf Course in Troy, featured 16 teams of four players. “This year’s event represents our second-highest fundraising effort to date,” explains Korrie Ervin, MCC’s Director of Resource Development. “Funds from this event will support student scholarships, faculty and staff support, summer camps, diversity events and much more. We appreciate the generosity of our sponsors, the big-hearted nature of the individuals who play each year, and the volunteers who attend to make the event a success.”

MCC Celebrates Winterfest

After a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19 restrictions, the MCC campus was once again buzzing with activity during the College’s Winterfest celebration. MCC to Sponsor Local FFA Chapter

Montgomery Community College Career and Technical Education Program announces that the MCC Sustainable Agriculture Department is sponsoring the Montgomery Central FFA Chapter as a curriculum-connected opportunity for eligible students. The chapter honors the name of the local high school, but has historical ties to previous FFA chapters in the county. Though the name change is recent, the chapter’s charter number (NC0023) is one of the earliest of more than 300 current chapters in the state. MCC Celebrates Manufacturing Day

After a year off due to COVID, MCC was thrilled to welcome area companies back to campus to celebrate Manufacturing Day 2021. Six businesses and two providers were on hand to meet with hundreds of MCHS and MCC students to promote the exciting careers awaiting them right here in Montgomery County. Autumn Care of Biscoe, Carolina Aseptic, Jordan Lumber Company, McRae Industries, Mohawk Industries and Troy Lumber Company joined Apprenticeship Montgomery and NCWorks set up booths beneath a large white tent, meeting students MCHS juniors and seniors throughout the day on October 28th. MCC Foundation Hosts Fourth Annual Shooting Clay Tournament

Ten teams comprised of 40 shooters headed down to Ellerbe on a gorgeous fall day for the MCC Foundation’s fourth annual Shooting Clay Tournament. DeWitt’s Outdoor Sports hosted the competition which featured 14 shooting stations with two shooting boxes at each station. The course, over a mile long, winds through wooded areas, fields and duck pond habitats.
