MCC Recognizes Annual Scholarship Recipients

On August 27th, around 80 Montgomery Community College students received financial awards from the very special people and organizations who endow scholarships at the College. Students and their donors were able to meet each other in person during a ceremony and post-event reception. The evening began with the presentation of merit awards, which are scholarships based on a student’s performance in their program and recommendations from their instructors.  The next group of awards, in its third year, were scholarships awarded to continuing education students through an established endowed fund. MCC and RCC Celebrating Truck Driving Grads

Montgomery Community College and Richmond Community College graduated their first combined Truck Driver Training class this month. All seven students who started the program graduated from the program and earned their commercial driver’s license. The graduation ceremony occurred on Tuesday, August 20th, with welcome words delivered by college presidents Dr. Chad Bledsoe and Dr. Dale McInnis, of Montgomery Community College and Richmond Community College, respectively. MCC Foundation Sets Fundraising Record at Annual Community Event

The Montgomery Community College Foundation extends sincere thanks to the hundreds of community members who attended or donated to the college’s annual auction fundraiser, held on September 22, 2023. The event, called Boots, Bling and Blue Jeans, featured country-western music and a beef brisket/smoked chicken buffet. Around 300 people attended the event, raising a record $33,000 for MCC’s scholarship fund. In addition to ten $100 winners drawn throughout the evening, the Foundation draws a $5,000 grand prize winner. This year’s grand prize went to Kenneth and Phyllis Cagle, who operate Aire Serv of Central North Carolina, a Biscoe-based HVAC repair and maintenance company. In 2022 the MCC Foundation awarded $152,061.71

MCC Pins This Year’s Nursing Classes

Fourteen students, three with an Associate Degree in Nursing and eleven from the Practical Nursing program received a commemorative pin and a nurse’s cap to remember their accomplishments. Ten Basic Law Enforcement Training students celebrated their graduation from MCC’s BLET program on the evening of May 8, 2023. Thirty-three Montgomery Community College students were inducted into the college’s Beta Xi Omicron chapter of Phi Theta Kappa honor society on April 27th. Family and friends were in attendance to celebrate the occasion. The purpose of Phi Theta Kappa is to promote scholarship, the development of leadership and service, and the cultivation of fellowship among qualified students. This year’s Inductees have worked hard to meet the eligibility for Phi Theta Kappa, completing at least 12 semester hours of associate degree general education coursework with a grade point average of 3.5. Thousands of Meals from MLK “Day On” Event at MCC

Approximately 75 volunteers met at Montgomery Community College to package nearly 10,000 meals in a half-day of service on January 23, 2023. Volunteers from MCC (students, faculty and staff), Communities in Schools, 4-H, Youth Leadership Montgomery, Eckerd Connects, East Middle School, Montgomery County Early College and Troy Rotary participated in the 13th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. “Day On” Challenge. Montgomery Community College was the recipient of a Randolph Electric Member Corporation People Helping People Sharing Success Community Grant. The funds totaling $2,000 supported the meal preparation event. UNC-Wilmington School of Social Work Partners with MCC to Provide Bachelor’s Degree Pipeline

November, 2023 – UNC Wilmington has partnered with Montgomery Community College to create a transfer opportunity for students wishing to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Social Work. Students who have successfully completed an associate degree in the Human Services Technology program at Montgomery Community College and meet admission requirements of UNC Wilmington’s Bachelor of Social Work program will be admitted to the program. This means that students have a straightforward pathway to completing a bachelor’s degree. MCC Foundation Hosts Fourth Annual Shooting Clay Tournament

Thirteen teams comprised of 52 shooters headed down to Ellerbe on a gorgeous fall day for the MCC Foundation’s fourth annual Shooting Clay Tournament. DeWitt’s Outdoor Sports hosted the competition which featured 14 shooting stations with two shooting boxes at each station. The course, over a mile long, winds through wooded areas, fields and duck pond habitats. The annual contest also offers a flurry shoot, where all team members aim at clays released simultaneously from DeWitt’s state-of-the-art automated traps. “This event is one of our favorites, and is becoming very popular. We had 13 teams participate this year, our highest count yet,” explains Korrie Ervin, MCC’s Director of Resource Development.
