MCC is pleased to welcome Drew Winters as its Dean of Student Services! Drew is a native of Brunswick County. He graduated from North Carolina State University with a bachelor’s degree in Sport Management and received a master’s degree in Recreation and Sport Administration from Western Kentucky University. He comes to MCC from the College of Business at East Carolina University, and worked in Student Life at Barton College for the four years prior. MCC Celebrating Ten Years with Phi Theta Kappa

Sam Britt wears many hats at Montgomery Community College. She is the Department Chair for English, Arts & Humanities, the Director for the College’s Quality Enhancement Plan, an English Instructor, and also the College’s ACA Coordinator.  However, one of her favorite roles for the past ten years is being an advisor to Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), the school’s honor society. Montgomery Community College is pleased to announce Hunter Smith as its new Dean of Continuing Education. He holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from UNC-Pembroke, a master’s degree in educational leadership from Northern Arizona University, and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree from Liberty University in higher education administration. Prior to accepting this role, Hunter served as MCC’s Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Research/SACSCOC Liaison. James Atkins, Police Chief for the Town of Troy, North Carolina is teaching at Montgomery Community College tonight, as he has off and on for the last 18 years. MCC’s Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) program runs September through April, with a minimum of 660 hours of classroom time. Successful BLET students master 36 separate topics from physical fitness, crime scene investigation, first responder, testifying in court, human trafficking, constitutional law and more. Tonight, Atkins is teaching a section on crime prevention. Tucker replaces Korrie Ervin who has become the college’s Special Projects Coordinator/Grants Writer. MCC Introduces New Heritage Crafts Director

John Boalick is the new director of MCC’s Heritage Crafts program, and coordinator for the college’s pottery program. MCC’s Heritage Crafts offerings include Pottery, Beekeeping, Homebrewing, Exercise and Taxidermy classes, however Boalick expects the programs topic breadth to expand significantly in the coming years. “Our students have considerable skills and love to use their hands to create,” explains Boalick. “A robust Heritage Crafts curriculum will provide the public with a variety of structured learning opportunities within already-popular disciplines. Thousands of Meals from MLK “Day On” Event at MCC

Approximately 75 volunteers met at Montgomery Community College to package nearly 10,000 meals in a half-day of service on January 23, 2023. Volunteers from MCC (students, faculty and staff), Communities in Schools, 4-H, Youth Leadership Montgomery, Eckerd Connects, East Middle School, Montgomery County Early College and Troy Rotary participated in the 13th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. “Day On” Challenge. Montgomery Community College was the recipient of a Randolph Electric Member Corporation People Helping People Sharing Success Community Grant. The funds totaling $2,000 supported the meal preparation event. Over 9,500 sealed meals were bagged and placed into boxes that were distributed to Montgomery County Food Pantries and the Backpack Pals program, providing nutritious
