MCC Improving Student Success with Navigators and One-Stop-Shop

As part of its re-accreditation process earlier in the year, MCC has begun the exciting journey of implementing its Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) which addresses the student onboarding process. MCC’s QEP efforts involve the creation of both “Success Navigators” and a one-stop-shop for new students called The LEGEND Center. New Leadership for MCC’s CCR Program

Montgomery Community College is delighted to announce the arrival of its new Director of College and Career Readiness (CCR), Yushawnda Royster. Yushawnda joins MCC with a Bachelor’s Degree in English from Elizabeth City State University, and a Master of Arts in Adult Education from East Carolina University. Yushawnda brings a wealth of experience to her leadership role, having served as a Basic Skills Assessment/Retention Specialist with Carteret Community College in Morehead City since 2005. Montgomery Community College is pleased to announce the arrival of Sylvia McAlister as its new Dean of Continuing Education. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Language Arts and Literature from North Carolina State University, and from Western Carolina University both a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Chemistry and Master of Science in Synthesis of Organometallic Polymers. Prior to accepting her role at MCC, Sylvia served as the Quality/Continuous Improvement Manager at PaperWorks Packaging, Incorporated in Mount Gilead. She has also worked in various scientific capacities for Hospira, Pfizer and Baxter Healthcare. The Foundation at Montgomery Community College is pleased to welcome Susanna Kornegay as its new Director of Resource Development. Kornegay is a graduate of Appalachian State University, where she studied Electronic Media and Broadcasting and Dance. A lifelong resident of Troy, Kornegay comes to MCC from Montgomery County Schools where she served as its Director of Marketing and Strategic Communications and a teacher to English Language Learners. “I am so proud to be working here at MCC, truly a cornerstone of our community. Ashley Hernandez always knew she would be a teacher, but she never predicted she would move from early childhood to teaching adults! Ashley joined Montgomery Community College in March 2024 as its full-time Director of Health & Public Safety, after serving the college as the lead Emergency Medical Services instructor. Ashley holds her NC Paramedic certification as well as many specialized certifications. She has been an EMT for 17 years and a Paramedic for 7. Devyn has joined the MCC Student Services team as its Data Coordinator. She works with student data across multiple platforms to ensure accuracy in student records and reporting. MCC Appoints Winfree Vice President of Instruction and Student Services

On December 1, 2023, Dr. Natalie Winfree assumed the position of Vice President of Instruction and Student Services replacing Mr. Lee Proctor, who recently retired. Dr. Winfree joined Montgomery Community College in 2012 as the College Counselor and moved into the Director of Counseling Services a few years later.  She has continued to enhance her leadership within the College. After completing her Doctorate of Education in 2018, she became the Dean of Arts and Sciences, teaching Psychology courses as a full-time instructor, achieving numerous curriculum accomplishments, and guiding the institution’s transfer programs.  Dr. Winfree was also instrumental in shepherding MCC faculty and students through the COVID pandemic as all MCC
