Have you ever heard the term upskilling? The term describes a relatively recent workplace trend that facilitates continuous learning for employees. Individuals can “up their skills” by participating in training programs and development opportunities that expand an employee’s abilities and minimize any skill gaps they may have. MCC’s Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Technology program is currently upskilling several Wallace-Dunn HVAC employees in its evening programming. MCC Announces Stipends and Scholarships for Firefighting Students

MCC students pursuing firefighting designations are eligible to receive either a stipend or a scholarship through a firefighter recruitment and retention initiative funded by the Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) Foundation of North Carolina. Both adult and high school students are eligible for the program, classes will begin in January 2021. The BCBS Foundation of NC Firefighter Stipend and Scholarship Program provides stipends of $500 per term or scholarships up to $1,000 per term for eligible Montgomery Community College students pursuing NC Firefighter Certification courses. MCC Welcomes Largest Law Enforcement Training Class in College History

Montgomery Community College welcomes 22 candidates to its fall 2020 Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) program. Five women and 17 men comprise the cohort, which will spend evenings and some weekends together for the next seven months with an expected May 2021 graduation. The group of 22 represents the largest enrollment in the program’s history, which started in 1983. These students will master 36 separate BLET topics from physical fitness, crime scene investigation, first responder, testifying in court, human trafficking and more. Free Online Classes Available at MCC for High School Students

Free online classes are available to Montgomery County high school students this fall at Montgomery Community College (MCC) through the innovative Career & College Promise (CCP) dual enrollment program. Last year, about 450 high school students across the county took these courses, which saved students and their families time and money toward a college degree. Transfer courses are weighted the same as Advanced Placement for grade point averages on high school transcripts. Some students earn enough credits for a community college degree or credential by the time they graduate from high school.
