MCC and Pfeiffer University Sign Articulation Agreement

Officials from both Montgomery Community College and Pfeiffer University were on hand to sign an articulation agreement between the two institutions. The agreement is intended to create a pathway for the seamless transfer of credits upon graduation from MCC and admission into Pfeiffer University. A student entering Pfeiffer University with an earned associate’s degree from MCC will be designated a transfer student and will be registered with Junior class status at Pfeiffer. The MCC associate’s degrees which qualify for the articulation agreement are: Associate in Arts- Business Administration, Associate in Applied Science- Nursing, Associate in Arts- Criminal Justice, Associate in Science, Associate in Arts Teacher Preparation and Associate in Science

MCC Recognizes Gaming Programmers

MCC is about to award certificates to its first cohort of gaming programmers! This May, twelve students will complete the Simulation, Game, and Development Certificate for transfer students. With Fall registration approaching, this is a great time to reserve your spot in one of two upcoming certificate courses that teach students how to program and build their own video games. MCC to Launch Dental Hygiene Program

Last fall, Montgomery Community College received funding to support a Dental Hygiene Program at the College. The North Carolina General Assembly, with special assistance from local representatives Senator Dave Craven and House Representative Wayne Sasser, allocated $1.5 million to establish the program. For the past 17 years, MCC has been serving the lower Sandhills region with the only Dental Assisting Program in the area. During that time the program has graduated over 200 dental professionals. MCC Appoints Winfree Vice President of Instruction and Student Services

On December 1, 2023, Dr. Natalie Winfree assumed the position of Vice President of Instruction and Student Services replacing Mr. Lee Proctor, who recently retired. Dr. Winfree joined Montgomery Community College in 2012 as the College Counselor and moved into the Director of Counseling Services a few years later.  She has continued to enhance her leadership within the College. After completing her Doctorate of Education in 2018, she became the Dean of Arts and Sciences, teaching Psychology courses as a full-time instructor, achieving numerous curriculum accomplishments, and guiding the institution’s transfer programs.  Dr. Winfree was also instrumental in shepherding MCC faculty and students through the COVID pandemic as all MCC

MCC’s Forestry Club Competes at Annual Cradle Competition

MCC left its mark at the John G. Palmer Woodsmen’s Meet, held in the Pisgah National Forest on October 7, 2023. Competing against other Forest Management colleges like Haywood Community College, Mountain Gateway Community College, Wayne Community College, North Carolina State University and Penn State Mont Alto, MCC achieved impressive placements in various events! MCC Celebrating Ten Years with Phi Theta Kappa

Sam Britt wears many hats at Montgomery Community College. She is the Department Chair for English, Arts & Humanities, the Director for the College’s Quality Enhancement Plan, an English Instructor, and also the College’s ACA Coordinator.  However, one of her favorite roles for the past ten years is being an advisor to Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), the school’s honor society. Montgomery Community College is pleased to welcome Michael Gardner as its new Facilitator of Short-Term Gunsmithing Courses. Michael spent his earlier years in the state of New York where he worked in a variety of fields including construction, banking and investments, operating a dairy/creamery and managing a dental office. He also served with various Non-Governmental Organizations in Germany as they welcomed and settled refugees from Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq. UNC-Wilmington School of Social Work Partners with MCC to Provide Bachelor’s Degree Pipeline

November, 2023 – UNC Wilmington has partnered with Montgomery Community College to create a transfer opportunity for students wishing to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Social Work. Students who have successfully completed an associate degree in the Human Services Technology program at Montgomery Community College and meet admission requirements of UNC Wilmington’s Bachelor of Social Work program will be admitted to the program. This means that students have a straightforward pathway to completing a bachelor’s degree. Longleaf Grant Renewed

North Carolina’s Longleaf Commitment Grant is a program for 2021 Montgomery County High School graduates who attend Montgomery Community College in the Fall 2021 semester. MCHS graduates may be eligible to receive this grant to cover tuition and fees toward a degree or to attain transfer credit. Full-time eligible students will receive $700 to $2,800 per academic year for a total of two years. Less than full-time students may receive a partial award. The Longleaf Commitment Grant ends at the conclusion of the 2023 spring semester.
