MCC and RCC Celebrating Truck Driving Grads

Montgomery Community College and Richmond Community College graduated their first combined Truck Driver Training class this month. All seven students who started the program graduated from the program and earned their commercial driver’s license. The graduation ceremony occurred on Tuesday, August 20th, with welcome words delivered by college presidents Dr. Chad Bledsoe and Dr. Dale McInnis, of Montgomery Community College and Richmond Community College, respectively. Yushawnda joins MCC with a Bachelor’s Degree in English from Elizabeth City State University, and a Master of Arts in Adult Education from East Carolina University. MCC Launches Boot Camps to Support College and Career Readiness

The College and Career Readiness (CCR) team at MCC has added another layer of support for students pursuing their High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma: Boot Camps! Each of the half-day sessions covers one of the five topic areas students must master to obtain their HSE diploma: Math, Reading, Science, Social Studies and Writing. Campers to Crime Solvers

This past summer, area youth enjoyed a three-day immersion experience focused on criminal justice. Montgomery Community College’s “Mystery on the LEGEND Express” summer camp was presented in partnership with Montgomery County Schools and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. The first day began with a visit to Montgomery County’s 911 Communication Center. The group also received a full-blown tour of the Montgomery County court house, which included time observing superior court and civil court proceedings. Judges, clerks and attorneys told campers about their careers, how they became interested in public service and answered student questions. Richmond Community College is expanding its Truck Driver Training program into Montgomery County thanks to a partnership with Montgomery Community College. MCC Secures Randolph EMC’s People Helping People Grant

The People Helping People (PHP) Board of Directors announced a $975 community grant to the MCC Foundation. The board of directors for PHP, a nonprofit program of Randolph EMC, awards grants that contribute to one or more of three focus areas: the health and well-being of individuals, financial support for income-challenged families or educational advancement through enriching learning opportunities. MCC will use its funds to pay for student testing fees in its High School Equivalency (HSE) program. Montgomery Community College is pleased to welcome Michael Gardner as its new Facilitator of Short-Term Gunsmithing Courses. Michael spent his earlier years in the state of New York where he worked in a variety of fields including construction, banking and investments, operating a dairy/creamery and managing a dental office. He also served with various Non-Governmental Organizations in Germany as they welcomed and settled refugees from Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq.
