MCC to Sponsor Local FFA Chapter

Montgomery Community College Career and Technical Education Program announces that the MCC Sustainable Agriculture Department is sponsoring the Montgomery Central FFA Chapter as a curriculum-connected opportunity for eligible students. The chapter honors the name of the local high school, but has historical ties to previous FFA chapters in the county. Though the name change is recent, the chapter’s charter number (NC0023) is one of the earliest of more than 300 current chapters in the state. MCC Obtains Credentials as EMS Education Institution

Montgomery Community College has been named a credentialed North Carolina Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Provider Education Institution through April, 2025. The credential affords MCC the legal ability to offer Initial, Continuing Education and Recertification for Emergency Medical Response, Emergency Medical Technician and Advanced Emergency Medical Technician courses along with local Continuing Education for Paramedic courses. In Spring Semester 2022, MCC will offer four EMS classes: Community Paramedic which is offered online; Basic EMT, Advanced EMT and Emergency Medical Responder feature a hybrid format to include on-campus skills days. MCC Foundation Hosts Fourth Annual Shooting Clay Tournament

Ten teams comprised of 40 shooters headed down to Ellerbe on a gorgeous fall day for the MCC Foundation’s fourth annual Shooting Clay Tournament. DeWitt’s Outdoor Sports hosted the competition which featured 14 shooting stations with two shooting boxes at each station. The course, over a mile long, winds through wooded areas, fields and duck pond habitats. MCC’s SBC Partners with SCA to Assist Marginalized Entrepreneurs

Montgomery Community College’s Small Business Center is partnering with the Sandhills Cooperation Association to empower future business leaders in Montgomery County’s marginalized communities.  Instead of asking entrepreneurs to come to MCC’s Page Street campus, SBC staff will conduct outreach initiatives through SCA’s network of trusted leaders and the locations they serve. The SBC will host a monthly Porch Talk series for business leaders at 117 Springdale Drive in Troy. Initial topics include how to get money to further education, how to pursue financing to build a business and the importance of building credit. Sydney Williams is the new director of MCC’s Heritage Crafts program. Thus far the Heritage Crafts offerings include Pottery, Beekeeping, Homebrew and Taxidermy classes, however Williams expects the topic breadth to expand significantly. “Our students have considerable skills and love to use their hands to create,” explains Williams. “A robust Heritage Crafts curriculum will provide some structured training around already-popular disciplines. MCC Seeing Growth in Sustainable Ag Program

In January of 2020 Montgomery Community College launched its Sustainable Agriculture program in the new Joseph Reese Blair Career and Technical Education Center, just two months prior to the College moving to fully-online instruction due to COVID-19. As with many programs housed in that facility, student experience was diminished due to the lack of hands-on activities. Montgomery Community College is offering free Career & College Readiness classes to help individuals earn a High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma, learn English, improve spelling, math, and writing skills, or generally improve their academic skills in preparation for college-level coursework. These no-cost classes employ various instructional methods designed to meet students’ unique learning needs. MCC Implements S.T.E.P. Job Readiness Program

Brutonville Community Center in Candor will be the first of several sites to host Montgomery Community College’s S.T.E.P. Job Readiness Training program this summer through fall. The six-week program, which takes place in Candor July 12th through August 19th, aims to take participants from the initial technology setup needed for a job search, all the way through successful interviewing techniques. The Strive, Train, Earn, Prosper curriculum replaces the job search component as a condition of unemployment benefits, through a condensed, one-location, hassle-free learning experience. MCC Delivers Firearms Training to Special Team of Soldiers

Montgomery Community College welcomed a special guest to campus in June, Lieutenant Colonel Matthew Reummler from the Fort Bragg Army Base. A friend of MCC Gunsmithing Instructor Matthew R. Mutarelli, Reummler was onsite to present certificates of appreciation to both Mutarelli and gunsmithing student Lew Jones. The two MCC representatives developed and taught a customized firearms training class for seven students under Reummler’s command: a cohort of U.S. Army nurse anesthetists! A nurse anesthetist is an advanced-practice nurse who administers anesthesia for surgery or other medical procedures.
