MCC Delivers Firearms Training to Special Team of Soldiers

Montgomery Community College welcomed a special guest to campus in June, Lieutenant Colonel Matthew Reummler from the Fort Bragg Army Base. A friend of MCC Gunsmithing Instructor Matthew R. Mutarelli, Reummler was onsite to present certificates of appreciation to both Mutarelli and gunsmithing student Lew Jones. The two MCC representatives developed and taught a customized firearms training class for seven students under Reummler’s command: a cohort of U.S. Army nurse anesthetists! A nurse anesthetist is an advanced-practice nurse who administers anesthesia for surgery or other medical procedures. Montgomery Community College Associate Degree in Nursing Program Earns State Board Approval

Effective Friday, May 28, 2021, Montgomery Community College’s Associate Degree in Nursing Program will have full approval by the North Carolina Board of Nursing (NCBON). NCBON establishes the standards for nursing education programs preparing for nursing licensure. These standards are designed to ensure that graduates have the necessary education to safely and competently practice nursing. MCC started its application for NCBON approval in 2018. The College’s application was approved, which initiated a customary two-year probation period. During this period of time, MCC kept a consistent nursing curriculum and content delivery system in place, culminating in the graduation of its first cohort of nurse candidates in May 2021. MCC’s Beth Smith Retires with Emeritus Status

In recognition of outstanding commitment and service to Montgomery Community College, the College Board of Trustees voted to grant emeritus status to Beth Smith, its Vice President of Student Services. Beth will retire from MCC on January 29, 2021 having served the College for 34 years. “I fell into this career,” admits Beth. “I had worked for Montgomery County Schools for a few years and the last position I held with them was actually housed on the MCC campus. Organizations of all types celebrate employee longevity, and MCC is no exception.  While celebrated virtually this year during its annual Quality Trails gathering, the College acknowledged years of service milestones for eight employees. Montgomery Community College Achieves High National Rankings

Two ranking services for higher education recently released research findings which portray Montgomery Community College in a very favorable light. The Guide to Online Schools recently published its 2020 Best Online Community College Rankings by State. Montgomery Community College is ranked fifth in its rankings for the state of North Carolina. Each of the state’s 58 community colleges were ranked by several important factors, including retention rate, graduation rate, percentage of online enrollment data and the number of online associate degrees offered. Montgomery Community College Secures $375,000 in Golden LEAF Foundation Funding

Montgomery Community College is pleased to announce it has received $375,000 in funding support from the Golden LEAF Foundation, a nonprofit organization established in 1999 to receive half of North Carolina’s funds from the master settlement agreement with cigarette manufacturers. The funds are part of the foundation’s Community Based Grants Initiative, targeting investments in the building blocks of economic growth: agriculture, economic development, education, infrastructure, workforce development and health care. The College applied for grant funding to support and expand its sustainable agriculture program, which provides opportunities for students to obtain an associate degree, diploma, and/or certificate in the field.
