MCC Forestry Program Takes Home Quiz Bowl Trophy from Cradle Competition

If someone said you lived near the Cradle of Forestry, would you know what they were talking about? Nestled in Western North Carolina, below the Blue Ridge Parkway, is the birthplace of forestry in America. A national historic site, the land was purchased by George and Edith Vanderbilt during a major logging boom. Dr. Carl Schenck, a forestry educator from Germany, helped the Vanderbilts with land management and re-forestation efforts that define sustainable forestry to this day. When George died in 1914, Edith sold 87,000 acres to the U.S. Forest Service, creating the Pisgah National Forest we know and love. Montgomery Community College placed first in SmartAsset’s Best Community Colleges Study for 2022. SmartAsset, a financial technology company, publishes articles, guides, reviews, calculators and tools to help people make decisions about personal finance. In its annual review of community colleges, the company examined 801 schools across the United States, considering three metrics when conducting this study: student-to-faculty ratio; graduation and transfer rate; and cost of tuition and fees. The student-faculty ratio at Montgomery Community College in Troy, North Carolina is eight students per instructor, ranking ninth for this metric in the study. The MCC Foundation Board awarded its Humanitarian of the Year and Fundraiser of the Year Awards at its March 2022 meeting. Award recipients were on hand to receive personal thank-yous in addition to commemorative pottery gifts crafted by Sydney Williams, director of MCC’s Heritage Crafts Program. MCC to Sponsor Local FFA Chapter

Montgomery Community College Career and Technical Education Program announces that the MCC Sustainable Agriculture Department is sponsoring the Montgomery Central FFA Chapter as a curriculum-connected opportunity for eligible students. The chapter honors the name of the local high school, but has historical ties to previous FFA chapters in the county. Though the name change is recent, the chapter’s charter number (NC0023) is one of the earliest of more than 300 current chapters in the state. MCC Obtains Credentials as EMS Education Institution

Montgomery Community College has been named a credentialed North Carolina Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Provider Education Institution through April, 2025. The credential affords MCC the legal ability to offer Initial, Continuing Education and Recertification for Emergency Medical Response, Emergency Medical Technician and Advanced Emergency Medical Technician courses along with local Continuing Education for Paramedic courses. In Spring Semester 2022, MCC will offer four EMS classes: Community Paramedic which is offered online; Basic EMT, Advanced EMT and Emergency Medical Responder feature a hybrid format to include on-campus skills days. MCC Conveys Annual Scholarships to Deserving Students

On the evening of August 25th, the Montgomery Community College Foundation awarded over $58,000 to students to attend the fall 2021 semester. These scholarships will be funded in the spring 2022 semester as well, putting education within reach of so many deserving students. Of the 62 scholarships awarded, 14 were to Montgomery Scholars, new students attending MCC right out of high school. This year, students and their donors were able to meet each other in person during a brief ceremony. MCC Foundation donors contribute to 99 endowed scholarships and 27 named scholarships as well as support various funds in the Foundation designed to benefit students.
